CoIP : Labtests 2012-04-27

  • Setup
    • Lab (Caruso)
      • Back projection screen
      • Projector design's projector
      • 2 mic
      • Toshiba camera
    • Leif Arne's Office
      • Same as Caruso
      • Single mic
    • Link beetween
      • analog audio two ways
      • DVI-opticat-DVI one way
      • DVI-TP-DVI one way
  • Tests
    • Conduct and clap - Test 1
      • Over link
        • 1 to 1: Good experience
          • Vivianne: Need to speak slower/clearer than when in same room
          • Torleif: On scale for 1-10: 9 ish. Camera infront of screen is disturbing (somewhat)
        • Sound sync test (clap + visual): no noticable delay
        • 1 to 3: …
      • Same room
        • 1 to 3 - conduct clap
          • Leif arne: Better on link due to reference line at bottom of screen
          • Torleif: Focused more on hands on link, most on face when in same room
          • Leif arne: Small movements easiers in same room
          • Vivianne: More aware of choir's behaviour when in same room
        • 1 to 3 - clap-clap:
          • Vivianne: linear speedup easier then linear slowdown, more aware
          • Leif arne:
    • Conduct and clap - Test 2
      • Over link
        • 1 -3 - conduct-clap
          • Vivianne: Feels more distant
        • 1 - 3 - clap-clap
        • 1 - 3 - conduct-clap no sound
        • 1 - 3 - clap-clap no sound
          • Vivianne: Feels closer then with sound
            • Conduct differently when no sound (says other conductors too)
      • same rom
        • 1 - 3 - clap-clap eyes closed
          • choir synced but lagging (Leif arne: no prediction possible)
    • Vivianne: stereo sound and video enables differentiating behavior of choir members
  • Hypoteses: Disscrapancies adds up, i.e. video link + audio link is worse than just video or just audio
  • Conduct and sing (ta-ta of Father Jakob)
    • same room 1 - 3
    • over link
    • Difference is close to non-noticable, group is getting used to both settings
    • Vivianne: More difficult than clapping (due to less percurrsivness)
    • Seem to be a fast learning curve for all
      • Vivianne is used to adapting (professional) ..?
    • same room 1-3 Leif Arne conduction
      • Some imprecission
    • over link
    • Leif Arne did equally well (non-professional) i.e. same room/over link does not effect performance
  • Choppy/jumpy effects (i.e. due to low frame-rate) are probably difficult to compansate by conductor
  • Need new test-workshop when delay can be introduced (with only Torleif from choir)
    • Video and audio delayed differently is of interest
    • Test different screen-sizes
    • Reduce video quality if possible
  • Conclusion: On link quality seems good enough
    • Faster frame rate could still make a difference
  • watching recorded conductor (woman):
    • Leif Arne saw/was disturbed by low frame rate
    • Vivianne and Torlaif didn't notice
  • watching recorded conductor (man):
    • He was moving his eyes (imagening looking at choir members)
      • Has that significance for choir?
